Dowally

Ukrainian Community Centre, 14 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh EH7 5AB

Dowally have been described by Leith Folk Club as "grin-inducingly fun to listen to". They are the Edinburgh-based duo, Rachel Walker and Dan Abrahams. Their sound is contemporary original folk; rooted in the Scottish and Irish traditions but influenced by jazz, Klezmer, American old time and everything in-between. Rachel plays the fiddle and sings. Her expressive, raw and emotional sound has been developed over years of experimenting with the instrument and honing her style in the pub sessions of the city. Dan plays guitars and also sings. An engineer by day, active and prolific musician by night, Dowally is the perfect outlet for his compositions, evoking film soundtracks in the setting of a folk duo. Dowally have recorded 3 studio albums, the most recent being 'early bird // night owl', released in February 2021. This album features guest appearances from some of Scotland's finest folk musicians, including Phil Alexander (Moishe's Bagel, Eliza Carthy band), Graham Coe (The Jellyman's Daughter) and Michael Starkey (Wayward Jane).
