Scott Murray

Ukrainian Community Centre, 14 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh EH7 5AB

Scott Murray has been writing songs and singing for over fifty years, including more than twenty years with the group Sangsters. In 2012 he made an album 'Evenin's Fa' of his own songs, and was nominated for Scots Singer of the Year and Tutor of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. His songs have been recorded by Roy Bailey, Dick Gaughan and Karine Polwart. He's still making new songs and tunes, and is planning more recording.

Here's what was said about his singing and the CD Evenin's Fa':

It's a thing of great beauty. This is heartfelt, understated, unpretentious singing. Worn and weathered tweed. Beautiful and honest. I've found a clutch of Scott's own songs deeply moving. (Karine Polwart)

The CD is wonderful. It is folk music at its best. I love all the songs. It is filled with love...a beautiful performance and recording. (Roy Bailey)

Scott's voice is craggy, manly, time-worn and warm. The songs are deceptively simple yet profound, lingering in your head. They juxtapose deftly described Scottish landscapes with deep human emotion. (fRoots) It touched my heart. Tears flowed, though I was not sad. (Naoko Kida)

It's a while since Scott was last at EFC so we're pleased to redress that omission and welcome him back tonight.
